Web Style Query

The Web Style Query interface looks similar to the Command Based Query dialog, except instead of using the powerful and comprehensive Perceptive Search Query Syntax, it uses a far more limited query language which is similar to that used by major public Internet search engines. To perform a Web Style Query:

Select Query > Web Style from the menu, or press [CTRL-W] on your keyboard. The Web Style Query window opens.

To construct your query, type in your search terms using conventions commonly used by major public Internet search engines:

• Where multiple words are used in a query, Perceptive Search will find documents with all of the words (the words are assumed to be ANDed).
• Where a word is preceded with a plus sign ("+"), that word must occur (the word is ANDed).
• Where a word is preceded by OR then either the preceding or following term may occur.
• Where a word is preceded with a minus sign ("-"), that word must not occur (the word is NOTed).
• Where two words have NEAR between them, they must both occur near each other.
• Where multiple words are enclosed in quotes, those words must appear as an exact phrase.
• Use the Word Wheel if you are unsure about the spelling or existence of a word in your index.

When you have constructed the query to your satisfaction, click OK or press [Enter] on your keyboard. Perceptive Search will run your search and display a list of documents matching your query.
