Previewing an update

If you are unsure whether an update is necessary, or if you wish to see how many documents will be affected by the work involved in an update, you can preview the results of an update, without actually performing it.

To preview an index update:

  1. Start Perceptive Enterprise Search - Local Administration Console
  2. Open the index you wish to modify, you can do this by either:
    • Selecting it from the My Index Catalog list
    • Select File > Open an Index from the menu and browse to the location where the index is stored
  3. From the menu, select Index > Advanced > Preview
  4. Checking Show full details will have Perceptive Search list the details of all files to be affected in the update as well as information regarding number of documents added, changed and deleted. This information can be sent to a file for storage by clicking Log and selecting a location for the file to be stored.
  5. You can log the output of a preview by clicking the Log button.
  6. Click OK to begin.
