Files to distribute when publishing indexes

If you wish to publish an index and distribute it to other users, you have a number of options regarding which files are distributed:

  1. all the documents and index files; or
  2. all the documents only, and let the remote user create the index; or
  3. only changed documents, and the index files; or
  4. only changed documents, and let the remote user update their pre-existing index.

If the recipients of the distributed files have a full copy of Perceptive Enterprise Search, the index files do not necessarily need to be distributed. The remote site can create an index and update it when the new documents are received.

If the remote site does not have a full copy of Perceptive Enterprise Search, then they will not be able to create or update their indexes. This means that the index files must be distributed with the documents. In this case, the document names on the central and remote systems must be identical in terms of drive, directory and file names, or the index must hold all the documents relative to the index.
