Concept Taxonomy

This search uses a hierarchical taxonomy of concepts to provide a structure and "table of contents" to the index. The Concept Taxonomy needs to have been previously created in the Concept Taxonomy editor (this is usually done by an administrator), and may have pre-defined queries associated with specific topics. For more information about setting up Concept Taxonomies, see the Concept Taxonomy help.

To perform a Concept Taxonomy query:

  1. Select Query > Browse Taxonomy from the menu, or press [CTRL-Y] on your keyboard. The Concept Taxonomy window opens.

  2. Concepts are listed in a "tree" format and laid out similarly to Windows Explorer.

  3. Click once on the + and - symbols to expand or contract sub-concepts.

  4. Use the Expand All and Collapse All buttons to fully expand or fully collapse the taxonomy.

  5. For large taxonomies, you may wish to use Find in order to locate specific entries. Note that this only finds the name of the taxonomy entry, not the description or query commands.

  6. If your Options permit it, you may also select any additional Includes or Excludes criteria. These function the same as AND or NOT operators. You may type your additional search terms, or use the Word Wheel if you are unsure of the spelling.

  7. Click the Execute button to perform your query. The Execute button is only active for concepts that have a pre-defined query associated with them.

  8. Your search, with any additional parameters, will run and the results displayed in the main window.
