MP3 files

Perceptive Search can index the MP3 format for transfer and playback of digital music files. Perceptive Search does not index the actual songs - it can not see the contents of the lyrics, for example. However, it is able to extract any supplied information such as track name, artist name, genre, etc, depending on what information has been supplied in the file itself. At a minimum, Perceptive Search will index the MP3 filename.

Perceptive Search extracts and indexes any ID3v1 or ID3v2 tags found in each MP3 file. These are simple key-value pairs with names like "song title", "artist", "genre", and the like. You can search for individual fields or anywhere within the full text of the MP3 file information

When an MP3 file is displayed in Perceptive Enterprise Search - Local Administration Console, you can launch the file into an appropriate program by clicking "Activate". You are thus able to do a search, find all the music files in your Index, and then launch the song straight from Perceptive Search.
