Ventura Publisher

Most users of Ventura Publisher (VP) create documents using a word processor, importing the file into VP for layout. These word processor files may contain attribute markers specifically for VP, such as <MI> to start italics, and paragraph tags, such as '@BULLET' and '@HEADLINE'.

Normally, when Perceptive Search indexes and retrieves documents containing such markers, the inserted attribute markers will be indexed according to the rules set up for significant and insignificant characters. However, it is possible to instruct Perceptive Search to look for and interpret these attribute markers in a transparent fashion.

When the Ventura markers option is used, Perceptive Search will ignore any Ventura formatting directives such as <MI>. Character code entries such as <45> will be translated to the corresponding ASCII character if it lies within the displayable range. If it is not in the displayable range, it will be ignored.

You may want to make '@' a significant character. This allows searches to be performed which take advantage of the Ventura tag structure. For instance,

SMITH IN @BYLINE

will find the word "SMITH" in the paragraph that starts with the tag "BYLINE".
