Using the the Admin Site

Perceptive Enterprise Search web comes with an extensive administration site that makes it easy to customize your installation to achieve your searching goals.

The administration site installs itself onto port 8700 of the web server, and can be accessed from the web server by going to:

http://localhost:8700

The Perceptive Enterprise Search web administration site can be broken down into the following sections:

  1. Search - the search box allows you to find websites, indexes or search the help. For example, searching for "Default" will return the Default website and also the help pages for "Default Documents".

  2. Navigation - the navigation tree allows you to find all the content within the administration site. This includes indexes, websites, and users. The tree is dynamically loaded as you click, meaning there are no long delays as you expand the tree to find what your looking for.
  3. Where am I? - this section contains the breadcrumbs of where you are now. You can easily get to parent sections of the site by clicking the breadcrumb links.
  4. Content - this is the content section of the site. It will change depending on where you are in the site. On the screenshot above, the content section reflects the items in the navigation tree.

You will also note that there are some "quick links" under the list items that grant quick access to some of the functionalities of each item. For example, under the Indexes item, you can click the New Index action to launch the index creation wizard.
  5. Quick Start - the quick start section is shown on the front page. It outlines common tasks that you may need to do on an initial install or upgrade of Perceptive Enterprise Search.
  6. I want to... - this section contains common tasks that you may want to do for the given section and shows a help page outlining the steps required to achieve the goal.
  7. Help - the help link will take you to the help page for the current page.
