Perceptive Enterprise Search supports over 200+ files types, but generally most indexes will only contain a small subset of these. Perceptive Enterprise Search allows you to control what file formats it should contain in any index. Perceptive Enterprise Search includes a default set that contains the most common formats.
It is not recommended that you select all formats as this will slow down the indexing process. As Perceptive Enterprise Search is scanning for documents to index it checks each file to see if it recognizes the file's format. The shorter the list of types to check for, the faster it will go.
