How to index my website

When building indexes of your websites, it is best practice to create one index per website. This requirement is not enforced. If you have several small web sites, it is possible to create one index of all.

Creating a new index of my website

  1. Navigate your web browser to the Indexes section of the Perceptive Enterprise Search web administration site
  2. Click the New Index button on the toolbar, the Indexing Wizard will be shown.
  3. On the "What do you want to index?" page, select "Web Site" and click Next.
  4. Enter the URL of your website, Perceptive Enterprise Search will discover all the links branching from this page.

You can also specify how many links from this page should be walked, click here for details.
    Click Next.
  5. If the website requires a user name and password, you will be prompted to enter them.
  6. Click the New File Rule button on the toolbar.
  7. Enter a name for the new index. Each index that you add to Perceptive Enterprise Search must be uniquely named. The name is shown in the Perceptive Enterprise Search Administrator and in the end-user's index selection.
  8. Click Next.
  9. The final page of the wizard will show your settings. You can also opt to have Perceptive Enterprise Search do the initial index build. If you intended to make additional rules, uncheck the "Build this index now" box.
    Click Finish.
