RSS
The RSS connector gives you an easy way to connect to search engines that support
RSS feeds for search results. There are limitations when using the RSS connector;
you can only fetch a fixed number of results so it does not support paging. This
limitation can be overcome if the search engine also supports the OpenSearch standard.
To connect to an RSS search engine, open the Perceptive Enterprise Search Administration Console:
- Click the Indexes link on the home page
- Click the New Index button
- Select Federated Source and click the Next button
- Select RSS Aggregator and click the Next button
- You must now provide the URL where the RSS feed can be found, substituting {query}
were the query text should be placed. For example, to federate the search.live.com
website, the URL is:
http://search.live.com/results.aspx?format=rss&q={query}
Click the Next button. - Now you need to configure the query translator options. You can specify how each
operator is to be treated by selecting one of the pre-configured options, the operators
are:
- AND
- OR
- NOT
- Proximity
- Phrases
- You are now able to test if the connector is correctly configured, enter a search
and click the test button. If results are returned, the connector is functioning
correctly. You can make changes by clicking the Back button, or click the Next
button to proceed.
- Give the connector a name; this is the name that is shown to the user at search
time then click Finish to save your new connector.
