Concept Taxonomy

Using Taxonomies, you can set up the equivalent of a corporate thesaurus, an index table of contents or simply an outline of the information in the index. The Concept Taxonomy simply allows you to categorize the information in your index into topics, and search it accordingly.

The Concept Taxonomy is organized in a hierarchical "tree" format. The highest levels consist of the most general categories, with each level down becoming more specific:

Each concept can be configured so that its lower concepts will also be searched. Using the above example, if you want information about sick leave, you may use the general concept 'Time Off'. The concept can be set up to also search for the concept levels below it: Paid, Unpaid, Compensation Time, Illness etc.

You will need to design your concept taxonomy using the Perceptive Enterprise Search tools. The concept taxonomy editor will create a file called ISYS.SCT which you can then use in Perceptive Enterprise Search to render your taxonomy.

Each website must be configured to specify which concept taxonomy (in the form of an ISYS.SCT file) to use, and which indexes to query when a user selects a Concept Taxonomy node.

To utilize your taxonomy, you will need to add the Perceptive Enterprise Search symbol {CONCEPT} to your front page. The demo site has an example of this:

{CONCEPT COLS="1" WIDTH="100%" SUBITEMS="3" CSSCLASS="ISYSConceptItem"}

This instructs Perceptive Enterprise Search to output the taxonomy tree in a single column, showing the first three sub items of each node, as shown below:

When a user clicks on a concept taxonomy item, the search behind the node is executed and the results are shown to the user. Perceptive Enterprise Search will execute the "Concept Taxonomy" template that is semantically the same as the "Results View Template".
