Legal Holds work at the file level only. When you place the contents of a folder under legal hold, it places all the files within the folder on legal hold. The hand icon will appear beside the files instead of the folder.

To place multiple files in a folder under Legal Hold, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the folder that you want to place under hold.
  2. Select Manage Holds.
The Manage Existing Hold dialog box opens.
  3. Select a hold under the Manage Existing Holds tab.
If you want to create a new hold, complete the following steps:
    1. Click on the Apply New Hold tab.
    2. Enter the Name, Description (optional) and Reason.
Note: The Name of the hold should be unique.
    3. Click on Save.
  4. All the files within the folder are added to the hold.
