ALE Learnset Manager stores its configuration and the training sets in a database.
Previously, ALM installation required a dedicated database user configured with a default database. However, in certain environments default databases are not preconfigured or shared database users are created. Therefore to provide greater flexibility, it is no longer necessary to have a specific database user for ALM. The single database user account can be used during ALM installation.
To configure access to the prepared database, complete the following steps.
Note:
- If the database user already has a default database, you can leave the Database Name field blank.
- If the database user does not have a default database, you can specify the database name in the Datebase Name field.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Database Type | Select the type of the database – either Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle. |
| Host | Enter the name or IP address of the host on which SQL Server or Oracle are running. |
| Port | Enter the port for TCP/IP connections - this is usually 1433 for SQL Server and 1521 for Oracle. |
| Oracle SID/Oracle Service Name | When connecting to an Oracle database, either enter the Oracle SID or the Oracle Service Name. If Oracle SID is selected, provide the SID value and if Oracle Service Name is selected, enter the service name. |
| Username | Enter the username that is used to connect to the database. |
| Password | Enter the password that is used to connect to the database. |
| Database Name (Optional) | Enter the database name on which you want to install
ALM. Note: It is only applicable in SQL
based ALM Installation.
|
Note: The Oracle Listener must be properly configured to
handle both SID and Service Name connections based on the selected option. You
need to verify network access to the Oracle database, especially when using
Service Names, as additional configurations may be required.
The installer connects to the database and prepares the
configuration repository. If there is a problem, the log message displays an error
message.
