This topic defines key terms related to administration in the Content Innovation Cloud.
Account
In this documentation, the term "account" refers to the Content Innovation Cloud account for a specific customer or organization. The term "user account" or "user" refers to the identity of a specific person or service within a Content Innovation Cloud account.
Application
An application is a software program that allows users to complete tasks related to their roles. For information about the types of applications you can manage in the Administration Portal, see Applications.
Environment
An environment is a means for isolating subscription data within a Content Innovation Cloud account. When a subscription is activated, an administrator assigns it to the environment where subscription data should be stored.
A Content Innovation Cloud account can have multiple environments, such as testing and production. Each subscription can be assigned to only one environment, though one environment can have many subscriptions assigned.
Role
A role is a set of permissions granted to a user group. Permissions determine what user group members can do within an application.
Subscription
A subscription provides access to one or more applications or services. Each subscription is assigned to an environment to store data for the associated applications or services.
Billing information for specific subscriptions is beyond the scope of this documentation.
User Portal
The User Portal allows users to access Content Innovation Cloud applications that have been made available to them based on their assigned roles. For more information, see Applications in the User Portal.
