Google Chrome Group Policies provide administrators with the ability to manage Chrome browser settings for users within an organization. In environments with managed accounts and restricted access to the Chrome Web Store, deploying Chrome extensions through Group Policies is essential. This troubleshooting guide helps administrators successfully install Chrome extensions through Group Policies.
Review the following Group Policies that impact the Hyland RPA Automation Extension.
ExtensionInstallForcelist
The ExtensionInstallForcelist policy dictates which extensions will be forcibly installed in the Chrome browser. For the Hyland RPA Chrome Extension, make sure the policy includes the appropriate ID. On Microsoft Windows instances, applications and extensions from outside the Chrome Web Store can only be forcibly installed if the instance is joined to a Microsoft Active Directory domain, joined to Microsoft Azure Active Directory, or enrolled in Chrome Browser Cloud Management.
DeveloperToolsAvailability
If the Hyland RPA Automation Extension is installed via Group Policy, ensure the DeveloperToolsAvailability policy is set to the value 1 to permit the usage of Developer Tools and enable full extension functionality.
NativeMessagingBlocklist
The NativeMessagingBlocklist policy restricts the Hyland RPA Native Messaging Host (BridgeApp.exe). Allow the Hyland RPA Native Messaging Host by adding the value com.hyland.chromebridge to the NativeMessagingAllowlist policy.
ExtensionInstallBlocklist
The ExtensionInstallBlocklist policy prevents extensions from being installed. To resolve this, either install the Hyland RPA extension through Group Policy or allow installation from the Chrome Web Store. Add the extension ID to the ExtensionInstallAllowlist policy.
NativeMessagingUserLevelHosts
If NativeMessagingUserLevelHosts is set to false, this will affect non-administrator installations. Correct this by installing the Hyland RPA extension through Group Policy or by setting NativeMessagingUserLevelHosts to true.
BlockExternalExtensions
If BlockExternalExtensions is true, the Hyland RPA extension can only be installed through Group Policy. To resolve this, either install through Group Policy or set BlockExternalExtensions to false.
ExtensionAllowedTypes
When ExtensionAllowedTypes is set, it prevents the installation of the Hyland RPA extension. To resolve this, add the value extension to the ExtensionAllowedTypes policy.
ExtensionSettings
If ExtensionSettings is blocking all extensions, resolve this by installing the Hyland RPA extension through Group Policy or by allowing installation from the Chrome Web Store. Add the extension ID to the ExtensionInstallAllowlist policy.
