For security purposes, after a certain amount of time of inactivity, your HP device times out and the user is returned to the Main Menu screen.

Similarly, after a certain amount of time of inactivity (by default, 5 minutes), the OnBase-HP web server's connection to the HP device times out and the connection is closed (if a batch is open, it is also closed).

When the OnBase-HP web server's connection to the device times out, if the HP device has not yet timed out, then there is no indication to the user at the HP device that the connection to OnBase has timed out and that the current batch has been closed.

To prevent this situation from occurring, it is considered a best practice to set your HP device's session length and your OnBase-HP web server's session length to the same amount of time. When both session lengths are set to the same amount of time, the connection to OnBase is closed at the same time that the HP device times out and returns to the Main Menu screen.

For information on configuring your HP device's session length, contact your hardware provider.

To configure your OnBase-HP web server's session length:

  1. From the server hosting the OnBase-HP web server, browse to the folder containing the OnBase-HP web server's installation files (typically, C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ HP OnBase Connect).
  2. Open the OnBase-HP web server's web.config file in a text editor, such as Notepad.
  3. Navigate to the <sessionState> section and set the Timeout setting to the desired session length (in minutes).
  4. Save and close the web.config file. The change is reflected on the HP devices the next time the Integration for HP Connect is closed and relaunched.
