Restricting user activity

You can define limits to the directories where users are able to copy files, to the amount of information they are able to print, and to their access to particular Perceptive Search features by specifying security options.

To show the Security Settings dialog, choose Tools > Security Settings...

Feature Access

By default, all of these options are available to users. Check the box next to an option to restrict it. Blank check boxes indicate that users do not have access to that feature.

Document launch

Stops users from launching documents in their native application. See Launching the Document for more information.

Synonym editing

Prevents users from editing Synonym Rings. See Synonym Rings for more information.

Saved query editing

Prevents users from editing the Saved Query List. See Saved Queries for more information.

Annotation editing

Prevents users from inserting annotations into documents. See Annotations for more information.

Document copying/exporting

Prevents users from copying or exporting documents. See copying documents for more information.

Catalog editing

Prevents users from modifying the Catalog for adding and editing.

Database disk directory editing

Removes the option for users to modify the catalog using the disk directory tab.

Check document security before adding to results

Excludes restricted documents from query results, this can result in slower query response times, performance can be increased by caching security information in the index.

Document printing

Prevents the user from printing documents. See Printing the selected document for more details

Constrain User Files In and Under

This option allows you to prevent users from copying files other than to a specific drive or folder. Type the folder where you want documents to be copied, or browse to its location. This restriction does not affect drives A or B. Perceptive Search will still let your users copy files to floppy drives. If you want to prevent copying entirely, check the Document file copying option above.
