Creating a new Website index
- Start Perceptive Enterprise Search - Local Administration Console
- Choose File > New Index from the menu. The New Index Wizard will
be shown.
- You will be prompted to select the type of index to build. Click
- Shared corporate information
Use this option if you intend to share the index between multiple Perceptive Enterprise Search users. - Folders and Websites
Use this option to create an index for your sole use.
- Check the Website box. Click Next to proceed.
- The next step is to name your new index. The name must be unique to Perceptive Search. You are
also given the option to add the index to the catalog. This will make the index
appear in the My Index Catalog list.
- You can optional configure the index for scheduled updates by selecting
Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. See Scheduling for details. If you do not
want scheduled updates, select Don't update index automatically.
- The final step is the location where Perceptive Search should place the index. Each index
must be stored in its own folder. Perceptive Search will suggest a default location for you.
The default location is stored in the user's application data folder, eg
C:\Users\Joe\AppData\Perceptive Enterprise Search\Indexes.
If you select Shared corporate information on the first page of the wizard,
the default location is specified by your administrator, or the first time
you add a shared index.
- The next page allows you to review the settings of the new index. Click the Configure button
to configure the Web Spider rule.
- The Web Spider Indexing Wizard will show. Enter the Starting URL of the
web site. Perceptive Search will use this URL for the starting point for the crawler. See
Spider Info for details. Click Next.
- If a site map for this site is found, you will be given the option to use the site map or have the Perceptive Search Spider
crawl the web site. If you choose the site map option all URLs listed in the site map will be indexed. If you
choose the crawl option than you will get to select the depth that the spider will crawl the site to. Select an
option and click Next.
- If you have chosen the crawl site method you will be given an option to select the crawl depth for the web site.
The crawl depth indicates how many levels from the starting URL should Perceptive Search follow. See
Spider Info for details. Click Next.
- You will then be asked to confirm your settings before finishing. If you check the Crawl site and create index
now checkbox, an index update will be run after you click finish.
