Layout

Most modern websites have a common look and feel which is carried through each page. A website will usually have standard elements such as menus, logos and copyright notices. Previously you would have to replicate the common layout and design into each page or use a complex set of includes that could be difficult to update and maintain.

Perceptive Enterprise Search implements a feature known as "Layout Files". The layout file contains the part of the web page that is common to each page. Layout files greatly reduce the amount of effort required to create a consistent look and feel across your website.

In the example below there are two distinct content areas, the "Main Content Area" and the "Sub Content Area".  With Perceptive Enterprise Search you can specify as many content regions as you want.

When a user requests a web page that uses a layout file, Perceptive Enterprise Search will merge the defined content regions of the "source" page into the "layout" page.  Modifications to the layout file will automatically be reflected the next time a user makes a new request.
