Deleting an index

You can delete an index from your system quickly and simply. When deleting an index, you can specify if Perceptive Search should remove the index files; or simply remove it from the catalog. Deleting an index will delete all the Perceptive Search files associated with that index, but your documents will remain untouched.

To delete an index:

  1. Select Tools > Delete an Index from the menu
  2. Select the index you wish to delete from the catalog, you can select the index by name using the Catalog tab; or browse to the folder using the Disk Directory tab. Click OK.
  3. You will now be prompted on what to delete, the options are:
    • Delete index files from disk
When selected, the index is removed from the catalog and the associated index files are deleted from disk. If this option is not checked, the index is only removed from the catalog.
    • Disable automatic update for this index
If you opt to not delete the index, you can check this option to have any scheduled maintenance removed for the index.
  4. Click OK to delete the index.

Note: Deleted index files are moved to the Recycle Bin, you will need to empty the recycle bin to reclaim any space.
