Best Bets

Best Bets are a hand-created list of key resources for common queries. This enables you to ensure that the documents you want at the top of the search results are at the top of the search results. Best bets are an easy way to raise the awareness and visibility of key documents.

Best Bets are managed per index. The easiest way to create a new best bet is via the Search Designer. The designer allows you to perform the searches, see the "live" results and pin a particular result to the top of the list.

A document does not have to exist in the index for it to be made a best bet but it is highly recommended. Documents that do not exist in the index will not have hit highlight enabled.

The best bets list shown allows you to add, edit and remove your best bets. When adding best bets, it is easier using the Search Designer.

Editing Best Bets

Each best bet requires a minimum of a Query and Filename. When documents are stored in the index, the title and description can be automatically populated.

Query

Specifies the query that this document is the best bet for. Perceptive Enterprise Search uses a fuzzy logic to match best bets. Stemming is automatically applied.

Document Title

Specifies the title to display for the document. If the document exists in the index, you can leave this field blank to use the default title.

Document Filename

Specifies the filename of the document to use as this best bet. If the document is from the index, the filename must be exactly as it is stored in the index. Using the Search Designer ensures this.

Document Description

Specifies the description for the document. The description is outputted in place of the {CONTEXT} tag. If the document is from the index, this field can be left blank to pickup the default description.
